My 4

Welllllll my sister told me that she tried to blog once and she got tired of it quickly. I think I’ll blame my dwindling interest on her biasing me.

Let’s see, what has happened since last week when I last posted? My favorite aviators were taken from me by the lake. Well, I basically gave them when I bent over and they fell off. I’ve been in mourning ever since. Alas, they were only $6 and I hope to replace them soon - it’s just that something is messed up with my PayPal and who knows when I’ll actually get a replacement pair and I’m devastated that I was so careless with my first ones.

I saw the Dark Knight finally. Ironic isn’t it that I waited so long for this movie to come out and didn’t get to see it the first weekend along with everyone else? Long story but I wanted to see it in the IMAX and it ended up that that wasn’t possible so we saw it yesterday. This movie is going to break all the records, and (sorry) but it always helps when there’s a dead actor in the movie. That said, Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the joker and I was stunned at how hilarious and dark his character was. No, I was shocked at how well someone did at pulling off “hysterical and dark”. Everything he did made me laugh! I loved him. And I loved this movie. Duh. As a Batman fanatic, I did notice some things that didn’t coincide with the original storyline though. For instance, I bet most viewers didn’t even know Harvey Dent becomes TwoFace prior to seeing this movie but since Batman Forever is one of my favorite movies I was aware and I also know that Harvey’s accident involved boiling acid rather than actual fire. Credit goes to Nola though because as a little sister, I only started liking Batman so much because my older sister did, and this was before it was cool. She used to have this alarm clock that shined the bat signal on the ceiling when it went off while simultaneously saying “Gotham City is in trouble! Call for Batman!”. I’m glad I was a little sister and not a big sister, because frankly, I wouldn’t have been able to handle someone like me, 7 years younger, copying everything I did, said, and took interest in. Anyway, Batman fan or not, this movie was very entertaining for me.

On a not so different note, Dexter is set to premier in September on Showtime. I CAN’T WAIT. If you don’t know the details about Dexter I recommend you visit the website and then order Showtime. This show is so captivating and addicting! I’ve been anxious for it to start up again every since the season 2 finale (which was awesome). If you don’t have Showtime, get it!! It will be worth it and there are a couple of other good series besides Dexter including Californication which will be in its second season as well as The Tudors.

While I’m on the subject of shows I’m addicted to, I’ll go ahead and let you know that I really need LOST to come back on! While Dexter starts again September 28th, LOST doesn’t start back up until JANUARY! Bad bad bad. But, good for you if you’ve never watched because that gives you ample time to watch all four seasons on DVD before the fifth starts up again.

There’s only four shows that I’ll watch with this much enthusiasm and it wasn’t until recently that it got to four. Entourage is the newly added one to my list. With so much time on my hands lately with Phil at work I’ve had time to catch up with this show too. Ari rocks my world. He is so freaking hilarious. Watch this show if you have HBO.

Nip/Tuck I’ve been watching since the first season came out in high school and I actually own all the seasons on DVD sadly. So I first watched this, then Dex, then Lost, then Entourage, but I like them all equally and won’t ever miss an episode of any of them! It seems like I’m a TV fanatic but I’m not really because other than these shows, I don’t really care what’s on. I am really happy that the writers of Nip/Tuck found ways to revive the show after a sucky fourth season; season five was really good. I think it’ll start up again in September but that’s just a guess based on the last two seasons. The Nip/Tuck site on FX is never what I want it to be. I am also anxious because I read that this upcoming season is only 8 episodes. Gay. Better than nothing though!

I wonder if anyone actually took the time to read this post. I still have two weeks until i start work. I still have two more months until Dexter.

Short

I really enjoy this website - www.postsecret.com

One of my personal favorites (and you can guess why) -

I really want the following two material things for myself -

Victoria’s Secret - High-shine halter top

Ariat Legend (Russet Rebel) - Fashion

Doubt you care but I’m honestly having battles within myself on how I can afford to buy these. Night.

El Rodeo es Delicioso

Last weekend we really wanted Mexican food so we went to El Dorado. Boo. This weekend we wanted Mexican so we went to this other non-franchise place called “El Rodeo”… looked iffy from outside but DAMN that was some goooood Mexican food, especially for North Carolina. We both got the “Tacos Bistec”, which were steak tacos with rice and beans. Well, these steak tacos had avocado and pico and the steak was pretty much the best steak I’ve ever had. I could eat these tacos all day long. YUM. We also got a pitcher of Dos Equis and the total bill was like $25 or something. Their margaritas are wayyyy overpriced but we thought the pitcher was a great deal and again, the food was bangin.

Today has been a great day so far. We worked out and are probably going to get some lunch (hopefully Baba) and then play some more LEGO Indiana Jones. Phil says we have to beat it today so that Guitar Hero Aerosmith comes sooner. I really like this Indiana Jones game though.

Well for three months or more, I’ve looked forward to July 18th, 2008, because that was the day that The Dark Knight came out. I’ve been realllllllly pumped all week, all month, all year basically for this event. So, we planned on making a day out of seeing it at the IMAX here in Raleigh today. Well why did I think that I was the only one who was planning this? As it turns out, all the shows through the entire weekend are sold out and were already sold out two days ago. When did I try to get tickets? Last night. IT SUCKS. I’m not going to watch this in a regular theater even though it would still be amazing - but I’m sure those are all sold out too even if I did. So, we are going to wait until next weekend so that we can see it in the IMAX. Poor, stupid me. Ugh, so as everyone is seeing it this weekend and talking about it and giving it AWESOME reviews… I’ll have to wait around so that I can see it at the IMAX next weekend. Phooey. I hope I remember to get tickets sooner rather than later.

PS. I’m not fluent in Spanish.

Life As I Know It

It’s hard to write as often as I’d like since I’m not doing anything with my life right now. Phil works all day long and I fill my days with chores and cooking. It’s hard not to spend a little money decorating this apartment because most of the walls are still bare. I went to Target to get a big picture thing that holds multiple pictures and they are a lot more expensive than I was prepared for. I bought one and it’s now filled with pictures and hanging on the wall where yours truly used a hammer and nails to secure it there. I hung something else up in the bedroom but now there’s nothing else to hang.

It’s sad when I’m home so much that I start to have a television routine. There’s only a few specific shows and times that I remember but it is guaranteed that I’ll watch King of Queens at 4 and 4:30, wait an hour, and watch two more episodes of King of Queens at 6 and 6:30. I usually eat a snack around 5 as lunch is wearing off and dinner isn’t until Phil comes home at 7. I’m pathetic. Oh and I’ve already seen like ALL of the King of Queens episodes prior to this. It’s still really funny!

I went to the pool today. I hate to say it but i didn’t have the time of my life. It was relaxing but I like being inside on the couch in comfortable clothes rather than outside in a bathing suit. I listened to my iPod to songs I hadn’t really listened to a whole lot and that included Donnie from Making the Band 4. I actually really enjoy the two songs that I have of his - “So Over You” & “Say I Ain’t Right”. What can I say? I’m a sucker for slow R&B songs, even if they are by Donnie. Sing it Donnie!

I finished that dumb Danielle Steel book, “Sisters”, and have started another one called “Up Close & Dangerous” by Linda Howard. I’ve read her a couple of times before, and so far this book is OK but I haven’t really gotten into it yet. Let me tell you something that’s been on my mind about “Sisters”. In the book, one of the four sisters is a supermodel. Her character is supposed to be a really famous supermodel, who Danielle repeats over and over, is “6′1 in bare feet”. Well in the story there are multiple instances in which her character goes out on a date or just goes out to a club or something, and she is always wearing “sky-high” heels. Does Danielle REALIZE that if Candy (this character) is 6′1” in bare feet, then she’d be 6′5” in 4 inch heels?? 4 inch heels aren’t even considered to be “sky-high” and Danielle seems to discount that this “Candy” is walking out the door as a 6′5″ or 6′6” girl. Being this tall myself, I am probably the only person to go on like this, but as an author, Danielle should really think about how she describes her character. I LOVE that this tall, beautiful girl is going out in sky-high heels as I would love to do that myself… I just think she should mention that as she walks out that door with that handsome yacht-owner, she is towering above him by at least 5 inches. The cover of the book is an illustration of the four sisters and you can only see them from the waist down and they’re all wearing their distinct clothes so readers can tell them apart without seeing their faces. Needless to say, this illustration of Candy is also not to scale. Sorry for the rant.

Welp, see ya!

I forgot to mention that I bawled like a baby with poison ivy when I first woke up and watched the series finale of Fresh Prince today. That one always gets me… it is SO SAD.

El Dorado, Fractured Prune, G’D UP

Finally some time with my boyfriend! I realize i might sound a little pathetic or dependent on this person, but when he’s the only person I know as well as the person I’m used to being with 24/7, it gets a little rough when he’s gone for 5 days! This weekend is such a relief!

Last night, I decided I would take Phil to dinner in celebration of the end of the week so we went to El Dorado, the Mexican place we wanted to go to on July 4th. Well it was open last night, unlike the other time, and needless to say it was not as good as the Mexican food I’m used to. But, it wasn’t bad either… especially when you’ve been craving it for so long. I ate my leftovers today and they were yummy. El Dorado’s rice is a little different-tasting than most Mexican Restaurant’s rice, but other than that it was pretty much what one would expect from a Mexican franchise.

This morning before we ventured into the danger-zone that is Walmart, we went to another Brier Creek franchise for breakfast - “Fractured Prune“. Word was that this place had good donuts so we thought we’d check it out on this lovely Saturday. Go to this place. These “good donuts” are not your normal donuts - they are all cake donuts (which are good alone), but they have specialty selections such as “The Morning Buzz” and “The Strawberry Shortcake”, both of which were delicious. Phil got a Reese’s Cup one and man oh man they were goooooooood.

Last night, we went to Wes’ new house in east Raleigh. I met some new people, some of which Phil had met before, and we drank some beers. We taught them how to play “Zoo” and it was a lot of fun. Some of them wanted to go out so we let them lead us to a bar that they knew was down the street but had never been to before. This bar was empty. There was not a soul there but the sketchy owner who was drinking alone as he watched boxing. Oh, and he also owned the tattoo parlor that was connected to the bar. It was a bar/tattoo parlor in one. Probably not the best idea… but yeah both were dead and we left. I’m glad we went there though because I got to see something that made me laugh. The bar was also next to this store -

Yeah, that is a store. After we left this interesting yet sketchy-as-hell stripmall, we visited yet another trashy bar. This one at least had about 20 people, all of which seemed delighted to be participating in the weekly karaoke. I don’t hate on karaoke, as I sometimes participate myself within the boundaries of my living room but these people were trash, trash, trash. Most came alone and sang alone as well. We’ll see what happens tonight.

Tonight I’m going to make Granmam’s famous Taco Soup! Off to Lowe’s to get the ingredients!

Sigh

I don’t even know where to start. With Phil being at work all day every day I am a lost soul. He works from 8 - 6:30 each day. If I don’t wake up at the same time as him then I’m not tired when he wants to go to sleep. So, I have to wake up really early and then I have even longer to wait until he gets home. Today I woke up and took a bath and read my book - “SIsters” by Danielle Steel. Why do I keep reading her books? She is so insulting to read because she says the same things over and over again in very short and stupid sentences. The story isn’t even that good, it’s about four grown sisters who went home for the fourth of July one year and their mom died and one sister became blind in a car accident. Thanks Danielle, but if I want to be sad and lonely I don’t need your book to do it. Anyway, I was still really sleepy when I got up at 7:30 but I know it’s just because I have nothing to do all day long and I know that the earlier I get up, the longer until Phil returns. I’m just really sad because I went from spending all my time with Phil and now I only get to see him from 7-9:30ish at night and during that time he’s exhausted from working all day. I actually enjoy spending time alone but I really miss Phil, and this is A LOT of alone time.

I think I might finally put Luci up on Craigslist. I feel really bad that I might SELL a pet but she just doesn’t get enough attention and I don’t really want to give it to her. I just don’t know if I can sell her because I like her just enough not to. It’s horrible, I know. But for those of you who know me, I’m sure you understand. I’ll keep you updated.

Yesterday and the day before I watched all of Entourage (season 2) on HBO OnDemand. Now I want to watch season 3 and they start showing it OnDemand on July 20th, which is in ten days. So I could watch it for free in ten days or buy it sooner because I’m very impatient and bored.

I went to the pool yesterday by myself. I was the only person there because everyone who lives here was at work. I read my book, swam a little, and called my mom. It’s a tough life. Oh, and some worker brought me some water.

I have to go, Golden Girls is on.

Bowser’s Day at the Doctor

As I mentioned last night, Bowser has had some weird poops lately so I took him to the “Avian & Exotic Pet Vet” today. It is really nice because it happens to be right down the street, and Bowsie does not like car rides! Anyway, I needed to take a fecal sample to them this morning so after Phil left for work I put Bowser in the bath so he could do work. Well he usually does his business and wiggles away and that’s when we pick him up out of the tub. Today he decided that he would poop and then kick it all around alllllllll over the bath tub. Thanks Bowz. So my day started with about 30 minutes of trying to scoop out the best pieces of poop from the tub and then trying to drain it in order to put it in a baggie and take it to the vet. When I finally took it to the vet I had to wait for the results and guess what - this lizard has pinworms and roundworms in his belly. Poor bowsie!!!

SO0o0o I had to make him an appt. and bring his little lizard self back to be examined and to get some meds. They had an opening at 1:30 so we made our way back then; Bowsie had to be hidden in a shoe-box because he is not allowed at the apartment. The vet said he looked healthy and she gave me some tips about his lights and stuff. She gave Bowser some meds by prying open his mouth and injecting it (he didn’t like that), and we have to give it to him two more times over the next month. Worms in bearded dragons are common. Actually, beardies have some in them all the time and are considered healthy but Bowser just has wayyyy too many. That’s all I’ll say about that.

Since Phil is gone, I am dying of boredom despite all the adventures I had with Bowser. When I got home, I cleaned a lot, I fed the snake, I cleaned Bowser’s cage, and now I’m watching Tori & Dean. Help!

Last Sunday

Well I am sad to report that this is the last night ever that I’ll spend with Phil before he officially begins his life in the real world. He starts work tomorrow at 9am at Square 1 in the American Tobacco District of downtown Durham. I am SO excited for him! I don’t know if I mentioned this before but when I first met people at Trinity, I met Tracey, whose job I am taking over. When I asked her why she was leaving she told me that her husband got a promotion and they are moving to New York… so naturally I asked her where he worked and guess what - he worked at Square 1 Bank and it turns out Phil is taking over his job as a Portfolio Analyst and I am taking over Tracey’s job at Trinity. How weird is that?! Both of these places are small and not many people are employed by them. Very eery! Anyway, Tracey told me that her husband LOVED his job and she went on and on about how fun it was at their office so I am really pumped for Phil to start. The bad news is I am really going to miss him because I don’t start work for another month. It is nice to have that much time off but not without him :-(. I will be so bored! Sigh, just me and Bowser from now on.

Tomorrow I have to take a fecal sample (POOP) of Bowsie’s to the reptile vet because there is something weird in it which I won’t discuss. I’ll update you tomorrow about how that little adventure turns out. Gotta cook dinner!

Independence

It’s been a great 4th of July. We woke up early and drove about an hour away to meet Ben, Renee, and Ben’s family at a lake somewhere north of here. It’s not the same lake we’ve been going to so it was an adventure trying to get there. Ben’s parents have been so great to let us come on their boat so many times this summer and today was special because I got to ski! They never bring the skis but they brought them today and it was so fun! I bet I’ll be SO SORE tomorrow though. I love skiing but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to wake-board. It was especially fun because for once I wasn’t even worried about my knee.

Deb, Ben’s mom, brought “nutter fluffer” sandwiches for lunch and they were delicious. They are peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, which I have seen many times in the store but never really knew what it was used for… very tasty. I’m exhausted and burnt from the day’s activities.

On the way home Phil and I decided we really wanted to get Mexican for dinner and since we don’t go out to eat a lot we were both really excited. Well, after the long drive home and showers, we drove all over the area in search of an open Mexican restaurant. Apparently, all the Mexican places are closed on the 4th to celebrate their independence. We ate Wendy’s.

Close to the end of our search-for-Mexican, we noticed HUGE storm clouds and a pitch black sky so we hurried home and now it is POURING sheets of sideways rain while lightning seems to strike somewhere every three seconds.  I’m enjoying the storm and we are watching the tennis matches that Phil recorded from earlier today. No fireworks but it is a nice night in.

Two more days until Phil starts work.
