On Tuesday I went to Target to pick out my next book and after a short showdown with the book section, I picked Love the One You’re With, by Emily Giffin.  Interestingly enough, this author graduated from Wake Forest and also penned the best-sellers Something Borrowed, and Something Blue.  I read both of those (in that order) when I was a junior and loved them!  She also wrote Baby Proof, but I haven’t read that one yet. Her first book was sooooo good that I was afraid to read any of the other ones because I was so attached to the characters in the first one.

She is an intelligent and creative story-teller and makes it easy for me to imagine myself as the main character.  By the way, am I the only one who does that?  Or do all readers do that?  I’ve always wondered.  Anyway, they are easy reads but not so easy that they are insulting, like Danielle Steel.  Here are some images in case you want to go pick them up!

Guess what… Phil and I dished out $40 to get Plague of the Dead.  To me, it was worth it because not only am I an impulsive spender, it was also a great book.  Besides Phil was the one who really paid for all of it because we played poker for  it and I won.

The sequel to this book wasn’t as hard to find nor as expensive as it’s predecessor so I am now about a third into it while Phil is buried into the first one.  Here is what Thunder and Ashes looks like:

So far, I am really liking this book. It’s basically a continuation of the first one and if you ask me it’s just as good if not better! I love reading and right now I have a lot of time on my hands.  More updates soon!

that’s all you really need to know

So, obviously, I thought I would love it!  BUT…overall, this book is just okay. The zombies are not scary and there were about two sex scenes, both awkward. Not to mention the characters weren’t my type. Anyway, despite it’s good reviews, I was overall disappointed with it. I like my zombie books to be scary and I like my sexy books to be sexy. This book was mediocre on both those fronts. The plot was confusing and not developed enough, and the way it was written made me feel like I was reading a story written by a 6th grader who was told to use a lot of exaggerated similes.

I did some research and found a series called The Morningstar Strain Saga and the first book is entitled Plague of the Dead.  Apparently this book is amazing as far as zombie books go, so of course I head straight to Amazon to get it and they’re out of stock. OUT OF STOCK at Amazon?! The used ones are priced from $60 to $120. I also looked at Target.com and guess what – out of stock. Now I really know it’s good. I need to get my hands on a copy of this like now.  Borders won’t have it until 2010. (Sigh) What. The. Hell. Here’s a the cover of the first book:

TOO BAD BECAUSE YOU CAN’T READ IT.

Sooo I just ordered Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea. I’m sure it will be amazingly hilarious if it’s anything like My Horizontal Life. I really love me some Chelsea Handler.

I thought I would update you all on my reading habits.  I love reading and always have some sort of book handy to read in the bath, at the pool, or before bed. One of my favorite books is Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann. It’s about three different friends in the 60′s and 70′s and basically they just do a lot of drugs, do a lot of guys, get famous, and then you read about how it all goes downhill. Well, I enjoyed that book so I did some research on the most amazing website ever, www.amazon.com, and found that there is a sequel called Shadow of the Dolls. It was written by someone else because the original author died before writing it. It still read like the original though. Apparently Jacqueline Susann left notes for it before she croaked. If you’ve read Valley of the Dolls, you’ll like Shadow of the Dolls.

I enjoy these raunchy love stories set in the 60′s and 70′s so much that I bought another one after Shadow of the Dolls. Although unrelated to any of the characters featured in the previously mentioned books, my next book proved to be just as good.  The Love Machine was different because the main character is a man, Robin Stone. The whole book just follows him and his never-ending womanizing habits as he moves up in the world of TV production.  It is nice and long, and has a happy ending. I enjoyed it!

So anyway people, read before you judge OK? When I finished The Love Machine, I chose to take a breather from Jacqueline Susann novels and cruise towards a more up to date and rather different style of writing: Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life. All I’m going to say about this book is that if you enjoy laughing, READ THIS BOOK. I can’t put it down, she cracks me up. Obviously don’t read it if you don’t like Chelsea Handler. This is the book I’m currently reading and I plan on reading Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea after my next book (waiting for it to come down in price).

Between Chelsea Handler’s hilarious books I am going to read Love in the Time of Zombies, which should be arriving in my mail box any day now. Honestly I don’t know what it’s about other than what the title denotes, but how could it be bad? I like zombie movies/books, and I really like love! Updates to come on this one.

Speaking of zombie books this reminds me that I read one by Stephen King last summer called Cell. Really good book! Scary!!

Seriously, this album is good. Her voice is not on the vocoder at all this round. It sounds great and I thought she sounded good in previous albums but this is what we’ve been waiting for! The slow songs, “Out from Under” and “Unusual You” are so pretty! Circus is amazing.

Is it weird that Phil and I go to bed around 9 on the weeknights? Even then I’m tired all day. Then if we go out one night on the weekend that magnifies how sleepy I am for the rest of the week. So when someone invites us to hang out on a weeknight, I just can’t go due to my level of sleepiness.

I’m very sleepy. I wish I was in bed watching Lifetime Movie Network.

I have to go to the gynocologist tomorrow.

Saturday is my 23rd birthday. I have certification clinics from 9-12 and 1-4. Then we’re all going to Buckheads to celebrate (I’ll be celebrating my birthday but mostly celebrating getting out of those damn clinics).

You know that song “Hate That I Love You” with Chris Brown? That’s how I feel about mayonaise.

Let’s see, what has happened since last week when I last posted? My favorite aviators were taken from me by the lake. Well, I basically gave them when I bent over and they fell off. I’ve been in mourning ever since. Alas, they were only $6 and I hope to replace them soon – it’s just that something is messed up with my PayPal and who knows when I’ll actually get a replacement pair and I’m devastated that I was so careless with my first ones.

I saw the Dark Knight finally. Ironic isn’t it that I waited so long for this movie to come out and didn’t get to see it the first weekend along with everyone else? Long story but I wanted to see it in the IMAX and it ended up that that wasn’t possible so we saw it yesterday. This movie is going to break all the records, and (sorry) but it always helps when there’s a dead actor in the movie. That said, Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the joker and I was stunned at how hilarious and dark his character was. No, I was shocked at how well someone did at pulling off “hysterical and dark”. Everything he did made me laugh! I loved him. And I loved this movie. Duh. As a Batman fanatic, I did notice some things that didn’t coincide with the original storyline though. For instance, I bet most viewers didn’t even know Harvey Dent becomes TwoFace prior to seeing this movie but since Batman Forever is one of my favorite movies I was aware and I also know that Harvey’s accident involved boiling acid rather than actual fire. Credit goes to Nola though because as a little sister, I only started liking Batman so much because my older sister did, and this was before it was cool. She used to have this alarm clock that shined the bat signal on the ceiling when it went off while simultaneously saying “Gotham City is in trouble! Call for Batman!”. I’m glad I was a little sister and not a big sister, because frankly, I wouldn’t have been able to handle someone like me, 7 years younger, copying everything I did, said, and took interest in. Anyway, Batman fan or not, this movie was very entertaining for me.

On a not so different note, Dexter is set to premier in September on Showtime. I CAN’T WAIT. If you don’t know the details about Dexter I recommend you visit the website and then order Showtime. This show is so captivating and addicting! I’ve been anxious for it to start up again every since the season 2 finale (which was awesome). If you don’t have Showtime, get it!! It will be worth it and there are a couple of other good series besides Dexter including Californication which will be in its second season as well as The Tudors.

While I’m on the subject of shows I’m addicted to, I’ll go ahead and let you know that I really need LOST to come back on! While Dexter starts again September 28th, LOST doesn’t start back up until JANUARY! Bad bad bad. But, good for you if you’ve never watched because that gives you ample time to watch all four seasons on DVD before the fifth starts up again.

There’s only four shows that I’ll watch with this much enthusiasm and it wasn’t until recently that it got to four. Entourage is the newly added one to my list. With so much time on my hands lately with Phil at work I’ve had time to catch up with this show too. Ari rocks my world. He is so freaking hilarious. Watch this show if you have HBO.

Nip/Tuck I’ve been watching since the first season came out in high school and I actually own all the seasons on DVD sadly. So I first watched this, then Dex, then Lost, then Entourage, but I like them all equally and won’t ever miss an episode of any of them! It seems like I’m a TV fanatic but I’m not really because other than these shows, I don’t really care what’s on. I am really happy that the writers of Nip/Tuck found ways to revive the show after a sucky fourth season; season five was really good. I think it’ll start up again in September but that’s just a guess based on the last two seasons. The Nip/Tuck site on FX is never what I want it to be. I am also anxious because I read that this upcoming season is only 8 episodes. Gay. Better than nothing though!

I wonder if anyone actually took the time to read this post. I still have two weeks until i start work. I still have two more months until Dexter.

Today has been a great day so far. We worked out and are probably going to get some lunch (hopefully Baba) and then play some more LEGO Indiana Jones. Phil says we have to beat it today so that Guitar Hero Aerosmith comes sooner. I really like this Indiana Jones game though.

Well for three months or more, I’ve looked forward to July 18th, 2008, because that was the day that The Dark Knight came out. I’ve been realllllllly pumped all week, all month, all year basically for this event. So, we planned on making a day out of seeing it at the IMAX here in Raleigh today. Well why did I think that I was the only one who was planning this? As it turns out, all the shows through the entire weekend are sold out and were already sold out two days ago. When did I try to get tickets? Last night. IT SUCKS. I’m not going to watch this in a regular theater even though it would still be amazing – but I’m sure those are all sold out too even if I did. So, we are going to wait until next weekend so that we can see it in the IMAX. Poor, stupid me. Ugh, so as everyone is seeing it this weekend and talking about it and giving it AWESOME reviews… I’ll have to wait around so that I can see it at the IMAX next weekend. Phooey. I hope I remember to get tickets sooner rather than later.

It’s sad when I’m home so much that I start to have a television routine. There’s only a few specific shows and times that I remember but it is guaranteed that I’ll watch King of Queens at 4 and 4:30, wait an hour, and watch two more episodes of King of Queens at 6 and 6:30. I usually eat a snack around 5 as lunch is wearing off and dinner isn’t until Phil comes home at 7. I’m pathetic. Oh and I’ve already seen like ALL of the King of Queens episodes prior to this. It’s still really funny!

I went to the pool today. I hate to say it but i didn’t have the time of my life. It was relaxing but I like being inside on the couch in comfortable clothes rather than outside in a bathing suit. I listened to my iPod to songs I hadn’t really listened to a whole lot and that included Donnie from Making the Band 4. I actually really enjoy the two songs that I have of his – “So Over You” & “Say I Ain’t Right”. What can I say? I’m a sucker for slow R&B songs, even if they are by Donnie. Sing it Donnie!

I finished that dumb Danielle Steel book, “Sisters”, and have started another one called “Up Close & Dangerous” by Linda Howard. I’ve read her a couple of times before, and so far this book is OK but I haven’t really gotten into it yet. Let me tell you something that’s been on my mind about “Sisters”. In the book, one of the four sisters is a supermodel. Her character is supposed to be a really famous supermodel, who Danielle repeats over and over, is “6’1 in bare feet”. Well in the story there are multiple instances in which her character goes out on a date or just goes out to a club or something, and she is always wearing “sky-high” heels. Does Danielle REALIZE that if Candy (this character) is 6’1” in bare feet, then she’d be 6’5” in 4 inch heels?? 4 inch heels aren’t even considered to be “sky-high” and Danielle seems to discount that this “Candy” is walking out the door as a 6’5″ or 6’6” girl. Being this tall myself, I am probably the only person to go on like this, but as an author, Danielle should really think about how she describes her character. I LOVE that this tall, beautiful girl is going out in sky-high heels as I would love to do that myself… I just think she should mention that as she walks out that door with that handsome yacht-owner, she is towering above him by at least 5 inches. The cover of the book is an illustration of the four sisters and you can only see them from the waist down and they’re all wearing their distinct clothes so readers can tell them apart without seeing their faces. Needless to say, this illustration of Candy is also not to scale. Sorry for the rant.

I forgot to mention that I bawled like a baby with poison ivy when I first woke up and watched the series finale of Fresh Prince today. That one always gets me… it is SO SAD.
