El Dorado, Fractured Prune, G’D UP

Finally some time with my boyfriend! I realize i might sound a little pathetic or dependent on this person, but when he’s the only person I know as well as the person I’m used to being with 24/7, it gets a little rough when he’s gone for 5 days! This weekend is such a relief!

Last night, I decided I would take Phil to dinner in celebration of the end of the week so we went to El Dorado, the Mexican place we wanted to go to on July 4th. Well it was open last night, unlike the other time, and needless to say it was not as good as the Mexican food I’m used to. But, it wasn’t bad either… especially when you’ve been craving it for so long. I ate my leftovers today and they were yummy. El Dorado’s rice is a little different-tasting than most Mexican Restaurant’s rice, but other than that it was pretty much what one would expect from a Mexican franchise.

This morning before we ventured into the danger-zone that is Walmart, we went to another Brier Creek franchise for breakfast – “Fractured Prune“. Word was that this place had good donuts so we thought we’d check it out on this lovely Saturday. Go to this place. These “good donuts” are not your normal donuts – they are all cake donuts (which are good alone), but they have specialty selections such as “The Morning Buzz” and “The Strawberry Shortcake”, both of which were delicious. Phil got a Reese’s Cup one and man oh man they were goooooooood.

Last night, we went to Wes’ new house in east Raleigh. I met some new people, some of which Phil had met before, and we drank some beers. We taught them how to play “Zoo” and it was a lot of fun. Some of them wanted to go out so we let them lead us to a bar that they knew was down the street but had never been to before. This bar was empty. There was not a soul there but the sketchy owner who was drinking alone as he watched boxing. Oh, and he also owned the tattoo parlor that was connected to the bar. It was a bar/tattoo parlor in one. Probably not the best idea… but yeah both were dead and we left. I’m glad we went there though because I got to see something that made me laugh. The bar was also next to this store -

Yeah, that is a store. After we left this interesting yet sketchy-as-hell stripmall, we visited yet another trashy bar. This one at least had about 20 people, all of which seemed delighted to be participating in the weekly karaoke. I don’t hate on karaoke, as I sometimes participate myself within the boundaries of my living room but these people were trash, trash, trash. Most came alone and sang alone as well. We’ll see what happens tonight.

Tonight I’m going to make Granmam’s famous Taco Soup! Off to Lowe’s to get the ingredients!

Sigh

I don’t even know where to start. With Phil being at work all day every day I am a lost soul. He works from 8 – 6:30 each day. If I don’t wake up at the same time as him then I’m not tired when he wants to go to sleep. So, I have to wake up really early and then I have even longer to wait until he gets home. Today I woke up and took a bath and read my book – “SIsters” by Danielle Steel. Why do I keep reading her books? She is so insulting to read because she says the same things over and over again in very short and stupid sentences. The story isn’t even that good, it’s about four grown sisters who went home for the fourth of July one year and their mom died and one sister became blind in a car accident. Thanks Danielle, but if I want to be sad and lonely I don’t need your book to do it. Anyway, I was still really sleepy when I got up at 7:30 but I know it’s just because I have nothing to do all day long and I know that the earlier I get up, the longer until Phil returns. I’m just really sad because I went from spending all my time with Phil and now I only get to see him from 7-9:30ish at night and during that time he’s exhausted from working all day. I actually enjoy spending time alone but I really miss Phil, and this is A LOT of alone time.

I think I might finally put Luci up on Craigslist. I feel really bad that I might SELL a pet but she just doesn’t get enough attention and I don’t really want to give it to her. I just don’t know if I can sell her because I like her just enough not to. It’s horrible, I know. But for those of you who know me, I’m sure you understand. I’ll keep you updated.

Yesterday and the day before I watched all of Entourage (season 2) on HBO OnDemand. Now I want to watch season 3 and they start showing it OnDemand on July 20th, which is in ten days. So I could watch it for free in ten days or buy it sooner because I’m very impatient and bored.

I went to the pool yesterday by myself. I was the only person there because everyone who lives here was at work. I read my book, swam a little, and called my mom. It’s a tough life. Oh, and some worker brought me some water.

I have to go, Golden Girls is on.

Bowser’s Day at the Doctor

As I mentioned last night, Bowser has had some weird poops lately so I took him to the “Avian & Exotic Pet Vet” today. It is really nice because it happens to be right down the street, and Bowsie does not like car rides! Anyway, I needed to take a fecal sample to them this morning so after Phil left for work I put Bowser in the bath so he could do work. Well he usually does his business and wiggles away and that’s when we pick him up out of the tub. Today he decided that he would poop and then kick it all around alllllllll over the bath tub. Thanks Bowz. So my day started with about 30 minutes of trying to scoop out the best pieces of poop from the tub and then trying to drain it in order to put it in a baggie and take it to the vet. When I finally took it to the vet I had to wait for the results and guess what – this lizard has pinworms and roundworms in his belly. Poor bowsie!!!

SO0o0o I had to make him an appt. and bring his little lizard self back to be examined and to get some meds. They had an opening at 1:30 so we made our way back then; Bowsie had to be hidden in a shoe-box because he is not allowed at the apartment. The vet said he looked healthy and she gave me some tips about his lights and stuff. She gave Bowser some meds by prying open his mouth and injecting it (he didn’t like that), and we have to give it to him two more times over the next month. Worms in bearded dragons are common. Actually, beardies have some in them all the time and are considered healthy but Bowser just has wayyyy too many. That’s all I’ll say about that.

Since Phil is gone, I am dying of boredom despite all the adventures I had with Bowser. When I got home, I cleaned a lot, I fed the snake, I cleaned Bowser’s cage, and now I’m watching Tori & Dean. Help!

Last Sunday

Well I am sad to report that this is the last night ever that I’ll spend with Phil before he officially begins his life in the real world. He starts work tomorrow at 9am at Square 1 in the American Tobacco District of downtown Durham. I am SO excited for him! I don’t know if I mentioned this before but when I first met people at Trinity, I met Tracey, whose job I am taking over. When I asked her why she was leaving she told me that her husband got a promotion and they are moving to New York… so naturally I asked her where he worked and guess what – he worked at Square 1 Bank and it turns out Phil is taking over his job as a Portfolio Analyst and I am taking over Tracey’s job at Trinity. How weird is that?! Both of these places are small and not many people are employed by them. Very eery! Anyway, Tracey told me that her husband LOVED his job and she went on and on about how fun it was at their office so I am really pumped for Phil to start. The bad news is I am really going to miss him because I don’t start work for another month. It is nice to have that much time off but not without him :-( . I will be so bored! Sigh, just me and Bowser from now on.

Tomorrow I have to take a fecal sample (POOP) of Bowsie’s to the reptile vet because there is something weird in it which I won’t discuss. I’ll update you tomorrow about how that little adventure turns out. Gotta cook dinner!

Independence

It’s been a great 4th of July. We woke up early and drove about an hour away to meet Ben, Renee, and Ben’s family at a lake somewhere north of here. It’s not the same lake we’ve been going to so it was an adventure trying to get there. Ben’s parents have been so great to let us come on their boat so many times this summer and today was special because I got to ski! They never bring the skis but they brought them today and it was so fun! I bet I’ll be SO SORE tomorrow though. I love skiing but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to wake-board. It was especially fun because for once I wasn’t even worried about my knee.

Deb, Ben’s mom, brought “nutter fluffer” sandwiches for lunch and they were delicious. They are peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, which I have seen many times in the store but never really knew what it was used for… very tasty. I’m exhausted and burnt from the day’s activities.

On the way home Phil and I decided we really wanted to get Mexican for dinner and since we don’t go out to eat a lot we were both really excited. Well, after the long drive home and showers, we drove all over the area in search of an open Mexican restaurant. Apparently, all the Mexican places are closed on the 4th to celebrate their independence. We ate Wendy’s.

Close to the end of our search-for-Mexican, we noticed HUGE storm clouds and a pitch black sky so we hurried home and now it is POURING sheets of sideways rain while lightning seems to strike somewhere every three seconds.  I’m enjoying the storm and we are watching the tennis matches that Phil recorded from earlier today. No fireworks but it is a nice night in.

Two more days until Phil starts work.

Lazy Thursday

I can’t tell you how much fun I had last night. I don’t remember the last time I had such a good time out. We met Wes at his apartment and met his two roommates – David and Tyler. They took us to Rum Runner’s downtown where they have $1 mixed drinks on Wednesday nights and we had to get there early to get a table because the place is small and ends up really crowded. They had “dueling” pianos where they play requests all night long in the front of the place and then in the back is a dance floor & DJ! Wes, Tyler, and David were awesome and I hope I get to hang out with them again. I love them! It was nice to go out with friends. I really miss my partner in crime though (Gin). We all danced and danced and everyone just kept buying more drinks (and shots). We had a “Surfer on Acid” shot and it tasted good.

That being said, today has been a completely lazy, do-nothing day and I have enjoyed it very much thus far. We watched “Arlington Road” which was a good movie about a professor with a weird neighbor that had a surprising ending. I am very sad that Phil starts work Monday and I will be spending my weekdays alone from now on until August 11th when I start work. I would like to have a part-time job to fill that void with but I just don’t know how to go about looking for a month-long job. I think I will just try to manage without one and possibly devote my no-Phil days to the treadmill, pool, and TV. I will be very lonely.

I’m Back!

We went to Texas last minute so that I could surprise Gin at her graduation party and to see my parents before I start working. When we got there we were so relieved that Phil actually made it as a non-rev because the flights were so full and a lot of stuff happened that made the trip a lot harder than we planned but in the end we both made it there and back in one piece. It was so much fun! I was sad that I didn’t get to see all my friends but there just wasn’t time as we were only there for a day or so. We went to Gin’s party Saturday night in San Antonio and it was a blast – they had endless amounts of food as well as drinks. I always have fun with the Mozeleys. On Sunday, we got to float the river and it was Phil’s first time. I hadn’t been in so long and it was the most fun we’ve had in a while, and I was so happy that Phil finally got to experience my childhood in a nutshell. Gin and I had a lot of stories to share with everyone and I am sad that those days are over… but none-the-less I am happy to be where I am now!

Last night we watched “Babel”. Um, not my favorite. I can appreciate the filming aspects of why this movie got awards but as far as entertainment goes – let’s just say I won’t be watching this again. I understand why a lot of people appreciate this movie but I just didn’t enjoy it. The acting was amazing but I think I knew in the very first scene I wasn’t going to like this movie and it had a lot to do with the little boy masturbating behind a rock before he used a rifle to shoot at a tour bus. Sorry for that spoiler.

Moving on… I am happy to announce that we now have more than one friend in the area. One of Phil’s old friends went to South Africa on a very long vacation but prior to that attended NC State. He has now returned and happens to also live in Raleigh. We hung out with him all day today and he is a fun guy. I met him last year though so I already knew that. Anyway, I’m happy we know two people now.

I also saw “Sin City” for the first time this afternoon and was very entertained. I’m sure everyone’s seen it by now but I was happy with the comic-esque type filming & acting. It was different and very cool – word is they’re making another one right now! PS. I can’t wait for “Batman: The Dark Knight“! It keeps getting REALLY good reviews.

Texas

We are flying last-minute to Texas tonight! I’m going to Gin’s graduation party Saturday night and then on Sunday I’m going to take Phil to float the river. I haven’t had time to tell anyone… I’m really excited to go home for the weekend. We’re coming back on Monday so I will be back to posting after that! BYE

Dick’s, BJ’s, & Jumper

I went to Trinity today mainly to sign a background check form for HR, but I also talked to Sue, the AD, and she walked me around and I met even more people that also work there. I’m horrible at names and I think I remember a grand total of one person’s name I met today – I think I was too excited to hear that my daily work attire consists of “gym clothes”. Needless to say, I NEED to go to Dick’s, my favorite place in the world. Although their clothes are overpriced, let’s face it, everything is. I’m not going to say I love that store because that would be an awkward, gross, & explicit statement… but I do love that store’s products. If anyone wants to fork over a gift certificate, I won’t object. I thought I was going to have to go “work clothes” shopping for nice clothes but much to my delight, (if I get to go shopping, which I won’t), I would need to go to Dick’s. Or, since I’m poor, I might go to Target. Wait, I’m really poor so I might downgrade to Walmart… even though it’s not downgrading as I already shop there twice a week.

Just thought of something, in the same shopping market as Dick’s is a store called “BJ’s” where we also shop. It’s like Sam’s. FYI.

So, apparently I am able to receive pictures on my Treo – I didn’t know that. I don’t think I pay for that. Mummy just sent me a picture of her new kitten! It is so cute and I’ve been begging Phil to either let us have one now or in the future and since he’s allergic he says I have to buy him allergy meds for our entire life as well as deal with a lot of other consequences because he really doesn’t want one. I have been and will continue to be really upset about this because I really like kitties.

We have Netflix so we have been watching some movies lately. We watched “Jumper” tonight and surprisingly I thought it was really entertaining. I’m not really into Sci-Fi weird movies but this one wasn’t too bad as far as that goes, and I wasn’t bored at all, which is saying something.

PS. I don’t know if I mentioned this, but Phil’s mom, Sheila, wants to take us skydiving. I probably talked about it but I am scared. Goodnight.

Brixx & Trinity

First let me give you the best update ever – Trinity offered me the job and I gladly accepted!! It is so awesome because I 1) I don’t start until August 2) I get all the days off that teachers get off! 3) benefits. I’m pumped about the benefits because I really need some health insurance y’all. Anyway, yay!

Last night we went to Brixx – it is a pizza place in Brier Creek that had a hell of a deal last night: $1.50 beers! It would have been more fun if we had more than one friend with us. We really need friends. Friends please. We have ONE. We shared a “Wild Mushroom Sandwich” at Brixx and it was pretty tasty. It was a good thing we were already full when we ordered it though because it wouldn’t fill up an eater like myself. Overall, we drank 8 pints AND ate a sandwich for a mere $20.00. Baba is still my favorite, and Pei Wei was amazing, but Brixx had that Monday night deal that saved us twenty bucks. On other nights they have some good deals too. brixxpizza.com

When is someone going to hire me as a Brier Creek restaurant reviewer?
